Chris graduated from Glasgow University with an honours degree in Neuroscience in 1993, then changed career and graduated with commendation in Dentistry in 1998. After senior house officer roles at Glasgow Dental Hospital and Canniesburn Hospital, he completed his specialist training in Orthodontics at Liverpool University in 2004, graduating with Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. He is listed as a Specialist in Orthodontics on the General Dental Council register.
